about

The basis of the first section was written in Melbourne during a surge in my love affair with Brazilian music. I had played a lot of choro, and was enamoured with the intricacy of the melodic and harmonic interaction, as well as the virtuosity required to solo over the changes properly. I fleshed the piece out overlooking the Sea Of Galilee in Israel during a 2 month period of intensive composition and swimming, and I like to think the vibe ended up being a mix of the Euro-centric culture of Melbourne, and the wildness of the wilderness where we lived in the North of Israel for a year and a half. The genesis of the prelude came from seeing a friend play moving bass lines against contrapuntal melody, and wanting to see if I could do it. A very satisfying and challenging experience.

about

Frock Melbourne, Australia

Frock are on an ecstatic journey of listening, sharing and communicating. When Frock started rehearsing in 1995, their experimental instrumentation caused a stir, in what is now a common place combination - their use of Accordion in Australian jazz was pioneering, and when combined with Vibraphone and Guitar gave them their signature lush orchestral soundscapes.
Apogee is Frock's 7th album.
